Sydney- Observations

Hello. There's nothing much to do around here with my dad busying himself with arrangements and my brother busying himself with the computer, thus I shall type. Although I'm an Australian PR I barely know anything about this place, and staying here has been...interesting, so here are some observations and new things I learnt from my stay here.

  1.  I am absolutely in love with salt and vinegar chips.
Honestly, they are the best sort of sour chips I've ever eaten. I used to like sour cream & onion, but boy, those chips cannot hold a candle to salt and vinegar. I was skeptical when I saw the packet, like: vingear??? But seriously, if you love sour stuff then you'll love salt and vinegar chips. Take a moment to bask in its glory.

  2. People in Sydney like to wear very little.
And I don't mean little as in few layers. Their shorts show part of their asses and they absolutely love bikinis. I can spot bikini straps on half at the female population at the mall, on the street, probably everywhere except near workplaces. Every(female)one here wears them, young AND old. I mean, not to be ageist or anything but really, old lady, a display of your saggy twins probably have ruined many childhoods. Furthermore wearing a bikini underneath seems to be an excuse for wearing extra slutty clothes. People seem to think that just because they are wearing a bikini they can wear anything they like on top but I don't see the difference between a bikini and underwear, except that it's waterproof, so I don't see why they think they are excuses to dress extra slutty. Maybe on the beach but... not on the streets or even worse, shopping.
  3. The Australian accent sounds rather like the cowboys' in those cartoons.
Maybe that's just me, but for now, I'm believing in that.
  4. Australian food is expensive.
My dad paid $6 for a 1.5l bottle of mineral water. That example is the only one this argument should ever need. But for further substantiation: Hawker food here costs a minimum of AUS$7. I suppose I have to learn how to cook here or I'll die of hunger here. Plus, I get extra hungry when it's cold.
  5. This summer here is the coldest Sydney has ever had for 50 years.
True story; my mom/ dad read it our from a newspaper. If you need convincing, tell that to the newspaper article here.
  6. Not being able to purchase anything during the end of year sales is a horrid form of torture.
Seriously, that is true-er than the previous bullet point. My parents forbid me from purchasing any sort of thing that takes up a decent amount of space (even a chiffon shirt) because our luggage is on the verge of explosion, just like Mrs W was every single time she stepped into our classroom.  The year end sales here are wonderful, or horrific, from my point of view. Tops I wanted to get in Singapore at $20 were AUS$5 aaand I saw this wonderful dress for like $13 here. I'm sooo yielding to temptation, I really want to smuggle some clothes shhh.
  7. We be getting a house in Brisbane!
It's not official yet but we got the papers approved and it's pretty decent. We're renting it for one year. It's not spacious but it's decent, considering that the area's pretty expensive due to the selection of good schools around it. It's not confirmed yet though, but when it is I will tell you my address if you're interested in keeping it touch. Plus we're getting an Internet Phone which has a local number so calling it would not require extra charges, unlike ordinary overseas phones.
Okay that's pretty much it, glad i could reach lucky number 7. Hope y'all had a good new year and all the best for the upcoming year of 2012 and do keep me in your hearts <3
